Photocopied newspaper article from a Batesville newspaper of unknown date entitled “1949 Marks Seventieth Anniversary of the Founding of Hail Dry Goods Company, One of the Big Business Concerns in Northern Arkansas.” Includes photographs of Betty Hail, Conway Hail, Jr., Conway Hail Sr., S.A. Hail, and the Hail Dry Good Company’s 3-story building on Main Street. Article gives background of how S. A. Hail came to settle in Batesville & got started in the retail business. 1874 married Lucy Fitzhugh. Third son, James Conway, interested in father’s business – established Hail’s Dry Goos Company as wholesale concern. 1940 – Conway, Jr. joined his father as partner in business.
