Spring Cleaning, Museum Style!

Welcome to spring in a 200-year-old town! While you are digging through items you have not seen in a while, consider sharing what you believe may be worthwhile with the patrons of Old Independence Regional Museum. We would love to showcase your grandparents’ or parents’ old newspapers they thought worthy of keeping, quilts, antique items, old photos – we can even copy these for our records and give you back the originals…anything related to Batesville’s long history you would like to share. Even better, if your item has a story of how it was acquired and its use, we want to ensure our patrons know how your family used and loved the item.

This Saturday we will host our quarterly Family Day. Admission is free, and we will have tables set up for you to learn, discover, create, and purchase items. If you would like to bring by anything historically interesting, please do! We want as many stories as possible to paint a broad picture of Batesville’s past.

These newspapers were brought to us courtesy of Janet Wood, who was cleaning her mother’s attic and found a rich collection of Batesville phone directories and local newspapers dating back 50 years. We greatly appreciate Janet for thinking of OIRM as she was cleaning.
