 Joseph Gregory Phillips and family at Pine Springs area, Barren Township, Independence County, Arkansas.  Joseph G. Phillips and his famiy migrated to the Pine Springs area west of Cave City in the mid to late 1880s from Shelbyville, Bedford County, Tennessee. Pictured are Joseph and Martha Jane Brown Phillips and five of their nine children. L to R: Phillips, William Jessie (1881-1904, struck by lightening while plowing)/Phillips, James Mathew (1879-1965/Phillips, Martha Jane Brown (1843-1927)/Phillips, Tennessee Floyd “”Teenie” (1889-1977)/Phillips, Joseph Gregory (1834-1904)/Phillips, Emma Jane (1877-1960)/Phillips, Mary Etta “Mollie” (1884-1959).

Joseph G. Phillips served in Co.F, 41st Regiment of hte Tennessee Volunteer Confederate Infantry during the War Between the States. He, his wife, and their son Willie are buried in the family cemetery on the old Phillips homeplace shown in the photo. That farm is currently (2001) owned by Raymond Staggs.
