Artifact Volunteer – Are you intrigued by objects in antique stores? Learn how to clean, label, and store historic objects, shelving them by category. Learn to take pictures of these artifacts with a digital camera. This is a good job for people who like to work with their hands in a comfortable setting. Have fun handling objects from the past and imagining how they have been used! |
| Public Records Volunteer – If you like to follow simple directions and work on your own, you can learn to humidify and dehumidify pieces of paper found in Independence County probate packets. You will also label and store the papers in acid-free containers in the museum. Have fun reading probate receipts and notes written between 1840 and 1900 and make it easier for researchers to use these papers! |

Accessions ID Volunteer - Do you like a quiet atmosphere and detailed work? You could learn to identify museum objects, photos, and documents, and write descriptions of each item by hand. This requires patience, but you will also be learning interesting bits of history. Have fun looking at all the historical items and learning to see them through the eyes of history! |
| Photo Scanning Volunteer - If you like photographs and feel comfortable using a computer, you may want to help the museum scan historical photos and write them to compact discs. Visiting genealogical or historical researchers can then see these photos on screen and make copies of them. Perhaps you will find images of your own great-grandmother among them! |

Textile Volunteer – Do you find needlework and sewing a pleasant pastime? You can work with the museum’s textile specialist in learning how to properly handle donated textiles and clothing, clean each item, prepare them for storage in acid-free containers, photograph them with a digital camera, and label storage boxes. Have fun looking at clothing from the past, arranging each piece for safe keeping or exhibit, and also learn about 19th and 20th century fashion! |
| School Tour Leader– Pass along our region’s rich cultural heritage to a new generation. If you enjoy working with school age children, volunteering as a school tour leader is for you! |

Photo Processing Volunteer – Do you find historical photographs interesting? If so, you could work with the museum’s photo specialist, learning how to handle photos, identify dates, safely store and write a detailed description of all subjects shown in the photos. Have fun looking at historic and interesting photos while searching for every detail under a magnifying glass! |
| Computer Data Entry Volunteers – If you are comfortable using a computer, you could quickly learn how to use the museum’s computerized collections management system and enter information about each item accepted by the museum. Researchers will then be able to use that information as they gain knowledge from our collected items! |
